TCG Letter #1236

In reply to Tolkien's letter of 5 August (see Carpenter #116: Letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to Ronald Eames • 5 August 1948 (#268)) Ronald Eames says that George Allen & Unwin have decided to not use the illustrations of Milein Cosman after Tolkien's feedback. He is on this day beginning the search for a new artist. Eames also says that they (GA&U) were under the impression Tolkien had been pleased with Cosman's early rough work.

Among a group of artists that Eames is writing to is a young artist, Pauline Diana Baynes (see Letter from Ronald Eames to Pauline Baynes • 10 August 1948 (#1237)).
