A day earlier Tolkien wrote to Ragnar Furuskog Letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to Ragnar Furuskog • 10 November 1944 (#2466)[1] on the matter of his work on the phonology of manuscript B of the Katherine Group. The following day he wrote a covering letter to the British Council and included this letter with the earlier one to Furuskog. It was to be forwarded on to Sweden.

Tolkien remarks that that Furuskog should surely have been aware given his and Simonne d’Ardenne’s published work that they would be working in this area, and that they had already covered most of the material in their published works. If Tolkien does let Furuskog see his transcripts, he hopes they will not be used as the basis of Furuskog's own work.

The cover letter also acts as a plea for help in locating Simonne d’Ardenne who is in Belgium. News of her has not been heard since the previous Christmas.
