TCG Letter #271 / Carpenter Letter #119

From
J.R.R. Tolkien
To
Ronald Eames
Date
28 February 1949
Type
Unknown
Transcript
Partial
Tolkien tells Ronald Eames at GA&U that he does not have the time to retype Farmer Giles of Ham, nor does he feel that it is required. He asks that they retrieve the copy that is currently with Pauline Baynes and send her the uncorrected proof. He also remarks that the typing of a fair copy of The Lord of the Rings is a great labour and that the cost of professional typing is impossible for him to manage.
Notes
Tolkien was at this time at Downside Abbey in Stratton-on-the Fosse, near Bath. He was taking a brief break and resting there.
