The title is simply "Alqualonde", another in the series of private commissions I continue to accept. Its dimensions are roughly 34" x 20" (I'm missing the exact information), in gouache on illustration board. The objective was to try to capture this very exotic Teleri Elven seaport with its stone arch, sheltered harbour, and elegant swan ships. Without sunlight in this epoch, the Elves would develop artificial Light up to a high craft so that dwellings and towers in the shadow of the Two Trees, might well be lit up imaginatively. I wanted the landscape element to be dramatic, so the cliffs on either side of the Calacirya rise dramatically above the city, between which the golden light of Laurelin shines.

These are absolutely gorgeous. I almost felt some tears welling up. Thank you Mr. Nasmith.

My latest painting, the long delayed 'Luthien Reveals Herself to Celegorm'. 14.5" x 11" gouache on board. I first conceived the image many years ago among other undeveloped images from Beren and Luthien, only getting as far as 1-2 roughs, such as the one here. Rereading the passage, I was surprised to read that it takes place in bright sun. I knew it was a day scene, despite the moonlight I once mistakenly assumed for it. It started out as misty/foggy 'til I read about the sun. The result explains the partial, misty sun-effect here. And of course Celegorm is not included (nor Huan), because it was the pose, the gesture of opening her woven cloak, which I most wanted to depict.
