Would anyone happen to have copies of the Ballantine Hobbit, 56th (October 1975) through 59th (June 1976) impressions? These fall within the run of that appealing cover design with black titling on a white background, and JRRT's 'Bilbo Comes to the Huts of the Raft-elves' on the front cover.

I'm wondering which is the first of these to evidence resetting. Those particular impressions are suggested for it in the Hammond/Anderson Bibliography, p. 33. A quick way to check for this setting is that the last page of the text, p. 287, will begin with the words 'am very fond'; prior to this resetting, the page began with 'very fond'.

It's a complete resetting, largely retaining the earlier pagination, but with numerous instances of changed line-breaks, several changed page-breaks, several corrections, and the dropping out of at least one sentence (in ch. 4, p. 68: 'They seized Bilbo and the dwarves and hurried them along.'). This form of the text persisted to at least the (new) 17th impression of July 1986.
