Ronald Eames writes to thank Tolkien for the typescript of Farmer Giles of Ham. Pauline Baynes want to illustrate the book. He remarks that the typescript sent to her, Letter from Ronald Eames to Pauline Baynes • 12 October 1948 (#2689), has not arrived and may be lost in the post.

He says that Baynes will suggest some subjects and submit some specimen illustrations. She hopes that she will complete the work in early 1949.
