TCG Letter #2710

From
J.R.R. Tolkien
To
Ronald Eames
Date
?17 March 1949*
Type
Unknown, Art
Transcript
Unknown
Tolkien likely returns Pauline Bayne's artwork for Farmer Giles of Ham to GA&U and asks for her address.
Notes
*this date is given a question mark by Hammond and Scull, see Chronology, p. 368. We have no current information to give a confirmed dating but as Tolkien remarks in Carpenter's Letter #120 (J.R.R. Tolkien to Ronald Eames, 16 March 1949) that he will return the illustrations the following day, it is assumed that he did so. Eames replies, see Letter from Ronald Eames to J.R.R. Tolkien • 21 March 1949 (#2711), with Pauline Baynes address which Tolkien had asked for.
