To
Ronald Eames
Date
4 May 1949
Type

Writing to Ronald Eames, Tolkien remarks on the timing of Farmer Giles of Ham "come to the boil" at his busiest time of the year for a professor. He says that the galley-proofs arrived while he was away, and he has only looked at them in the last couple of days. He returns the marked set with this letter.
Tolkien approves Pauline Baynes' illustration, but wishes there could have been more colours. If two is the limit, he prefers the brown and blue colour scheme.
