Thrilling dramatization by Brian Sibley and Michael Bakewell, it boasts a truly outstanding cast including Ian Holm (as Frodo), Sir Michael Hordern (as Gandalf), Robert Stephens (as Aragorn), and John Le Mesurier. Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Pearl, and Sir Orfeo by J. R. R. Tolkien 1st, 1st 9780048210357
This listing includes a 1st edition, 1st impression/printing of the British edition (hardcover) of Tolkien’s translations of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Pearl, and Sir Orfeo (1975). The dust jacket has been price clipped but is in excellent condition. The front free end paper contains remnants of pencil that has been erased. The boards contain a few stains to the front and back of the cover, the bottom edge is rubbed, and the corners are bumped and rubbed (see pictures).
“This collection brings together Tolkien’s translations of four Middle English works: Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Pearl, Sir Orfeo and Gawain’s Leave Taking. It also includes numerous short pieces by Tolkien discussing various aspects of the poems” (Tolkienbooks.net).
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and Pearl, two major poems by an unknown author, derive from the West Midlands, an area of England with which Tolkien felt a strong affinity, and where the alliterative tradition survived strongly in the fourteenth century. Sir Orfeo is a slighter, but no less attractive, poem from a different tradition, and was a special favorite of its translator.
These three translations represent with great skill the complete rhyme and alliterative schemes of the originals. They constitute a triumphant memorial to a life-long love of language and its expression in metre and verse-form. No scholar who reads them with attention will fail to find illumination, and no reader of Tolkien's widely known imaginative works will feel disappointed, or fail to perceive in every page flashes of familiarity. It was, indeed, to the general reader that he wished to interpret these poems, and in doing so to lose neither the narrative skill nor the heightened poetic expression of the originals.

The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien 0345318587

New Worlds: An Anthology (Tolkien interview – “The Realms of Tolkien”) 9781568583174
This anthology (2004) contains “The Realms of Tolkien” by Daphne Castell, an interview with Tolkien that was first published in Vol. 50, No. 168, November 1966. The book is in near fine (like new) condition with the exception of slightly bumped corners (see the picture).
From its beginnings as a fanzine before World War II, New Worlds struck out on a different path. In the postwar years, under the editorial direction of Michael Moorcock, the magazine published more award-winning stories than any other science fiction publication; it achieved a unique cross-fertilization between sci-fi and mainstream literature and became the vanguard of the "New Wave" writing that stood sci-fi on its head in the 1960s. It was banned, it received grants, and it became the subject of debate in the Houses of Parliament. Moorcock introduced a broad readership to writers whose names would endure, such as Samuel Delany, M. John Harrison, J. G. Ballard, D. M. Thomas, Harlan Ellison, Brian Aldiss, Fritz Leiber, John Brunner, Norman Spinrad and many others.

The War of the Jewels by J. R. R. Tolkien 1st, 1st 0261103148
This listing includes the 1st edition, 1st impression/printing of the British edition (hardcover) of The War of the Jewels (1994). It is missing the dust jacket. “According to information supplied by HarperCollins, 4,568 copies of the 1st impression were printed, 1,544 of which were sold by Book Club Associates” (Tolkienbooks.net). The spine contains a crease to it from having been read and the spine has come away from the textblock (see picture). There are some other minor bumps and rubbing to the edges of the boards of the book, and the outer textblock contains some very faint marks here and there.
In The War of the Jewels, Christopher Tolkien takes up his account of the later history of The Silmarillion from the point where it was left in Morgoth’s Ring. The story now returns to Middle-earth, and the ruinous conflict of the High Elves and the Men who were their allies with the power of the Dark Lord. This book contains the full text of the Grey Annals, the primary record of The War of the Jewels, and a major story of Middle-earth: the tale of the disaster that overtook the forest people of Brethil when Húrin the Steadfast came among them after his release from long years of captivity in Angband, the fortress of Morgoth.
The War of the Jewels includes the following:
• “The Grey Annals”
• “The Later Quenta Silmarillion”
• “The Wanderings of Húrin and Other Writings not forming part of the Quenta Silmarillion”
• “Quendi and Eldar”

Letters from Father Christmas by J. R. R. Tolkien 9780618009374
This listing includes a lavishly illustrated, hardback copy of Letters from Father Christmas (1999, 4th printing). The book is excellent condition besides a few scrapes to the boards and one ding to the top of the back of the book (see picture).
Every December, an envelope from the North Pole would arrive for J. R. R. Tolkien’s children. Inside would be a letter in strange, spidery handwriting and a beautiful color drawing. The letters told wonderful tales of life at the North Pole: how all the reindeer scattered presents all over the place; how the accident-prone Polar Bear climbed the North Pole and fell through the roof of Father Christmas's house; how he broke the Moon into four pieces and made the Man in it fall into the back garden; how there were wars with a troublesome horde of goblins. Sometimes the Polar Bear would scrawl a note, adding yet more humor to the stories. No reader, young or old, can fail to be charmed by the inventiveness of Tolkien's Father Christmas Letters.

Bilbo’s Last Song by J. R. R. Tolkien 0395538106
This is the first American edition thus (in book form) from 1990 (the poem was published earlier as a poster and puzzle). According to Hammond’s Tolkien Bibliography, there were “10,000 copies printed.” The book itself is in very nice condition besides the small split near the spine (see picture). The dust jacket has small tears and chips near the edges and there’s a couple small indentations to the dust jacket here and there.
The text for this lush picture book is a poem purportedly written by Bilbo Baggins just before he takes ship from Middle-earth to the Undying Lands at the end of The Lord of the Rings. Baynes, illustrator of many of Tolkien's tales, has filled this book’s colorful, medieval-flavored paintings with her deep love and understanding of Tolkien's masterpieces. Framed by gracefully gnarled trees, circular paintings on each recto page faithfully illustrate the events described in the final pages of Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings while insets tell the story of The Hobbit; endnotes identify the specific passages that serve as sources for these pictures. The effect is stirring, the mood elegiac and the imagery riveting, making this a must for all fans of Tolkien’s vast, epic fantasy.

The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien (Book Club Associates)
Up for sale is a one volume, hardback copy of The Lord of the Rings. This is the Book Club Associates edition from 1978. The book appears to have never been read; however, the corners are lightly bumped, the textblock is a bit age-toned and the spine has pulled away from the inner textblock (see picture). The dust jacket contains some edgewear and the spine of the dust jacket appears to be sunned. The artwork for this dust jacket was done by Pauline Baynes.
The Letters of J. R. R. Tolkien 1st, 1st British edition 9780048260055
This listing is for a hardback copy of the 1st edition, 1st impression/printing of the British edition of The Letters of J. R. R. Tolkien (1981). According to Hammond’s Tolkien Bibliography, there were “7,500-10,000 copies planned.” The book is in near fine (like new) condition.
As a prolific letter writer, Tolkien wrote to his publishers, to members of his family, to friends and to fans of his books, a mass of letters which often reveal the inner workings of his mind, and which record the history of composition of many of his stories. This selection represents, in Tolkien's own words, a highly detailed portrait of the man in his many aspects; storyteller, scholar, Catholic, parent of a large family and observer of the world around him. The letters include fresh information about Middle-earth and its inhabitants as well as analyses by Tolkien himself of the meanings of his stories. Finally, this book will entertain anyone who appreciates the art of letter-writing, of which Tolkien was a master.

Poems and Stories by J. R. R. Tolkien 9780395689998
This is a 2nd printing of the 1994 edition of Poems and Stories. Besides some mild edgewear to the dust jacket and the spine having loosened slightly from the textblock (see picture), I’d say this book is in very good plus to near fine (like new) condition. I don’t think this book has ever been read.
A collection of pieces that barely touches upon Middle-earth; overall, it renders a much more complete account of this scholar, poet, critic, and storyteller’s talents. The charming, deceptively light poems of “The Adventures of Tom Bambadil” contain intriguing sidelights on Middle-earth lore, while the dramatic poem “The Homecoming of Beorhtnoth,” complete with scholarly introduction, describes the aftermath of the Battle of Maldon, which occurred in the year 991. The essay “On Fairy-stories” has won critical acclaim, as have the tales “Farmer Giles of Ham” and “Smith of Wootton Major,” as well as the story that most closely reflects Tolkien's personal philosophy (“Leaf by Niggle”). Some of these may be familiar, or available individually; still, this collection is a splendid accompaniment for existing fans or an excellent introduction for newcomers.

The Lord of the Rings (Alan Lee) by J. R. R. Tolkien 9780618260584
Three-volume boxed set edition lavishly illustrated in full color by Alan Lee. The slipcase contains bumps, small chips, scratches, and light dings. A very large and heavy set.

This is the 1989 Rankin & Bass edition of The Hobbit with a paper dust jacket, which is lavishly illustrated by Lester Abrams, Robert Jones, et al. The book contains some small white marks to the boards of the book (see pictures). The front free endpaper has some remnants of a price that has been erased and the back paste down has a binding error that appears to be a small publishing flaw (see picture). The dust jacket has some edgewear. I’d say the book is probably in very good condition.

The Children of Húrin by J. R. R. Tolkien 1st, 1st 9780618894642
This listing includes a 1st edition, 1st printing of the American edition of The Children of Húrin (2007). The book is in brand new condition, never read.
The first complete book by J.R.R. Tolkien in three decades—since the publication of The Silmarillion in 1977—The Children of Húrin reunites fans of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings with Elves and Men, dragons and Dwarves, Eagles and Orcs. Presented for the first time as a complete, standalone story, this stirring narrative will appeal to casual fans and expert readers alike, returning them to the rich landscape and characters unique to Tolkien.
The Children of Húrin, begun in 1918, was one of three “Great Tales” J. R. R. Tolkien worked on throughout his life, though he never realized his ambition to see it published. Though familiar to many fans from extracts and references within other Tolkien books, it has long been assumed that the story would forever remain an unfinished tale. Now reconstructed by Christopher Tolkien, painstakingly editing together the complete work from his father’s many drafts, this book is the culmination of a tireless thirty-year endeavor by him to bring J. R. R. Tolkien’s vast body of unpublished work to a wide audience.
Having drawn the distinctive maps for the original The Lord of the Rings more than 50 years ago, Christopher has also created a detailed new map for this book. In addition, it includes a jacket and color paintings by Alan Lee, illustrator of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings Centenary Edition and Academy Award-winning designer of the film trilogy.

The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrún by J. R. R. Tolkien 1st, 1st 9780547273426
This listing includes a 1st edition, 1st printing of the American edition of The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrún (2009). The book is in brand new condition, never read.
The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrún is a previously unpublished work by J.R.R. Tolkien, written while Tolkien was Professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford during the 1920s and ‘30s, before he wrote The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. It makes available for the first time Tolkien’s extensive retelling in English narrative verse of the epic Norse tales of Sigurd the Völsung and The Fall of the Niflungs. It includes an introduction by J. R. R. Tolkien, drawn from one of his own lectures on Norse literature, with commentary and notes on the poems by Christopher Tolkien.

The History of The Hobbit (2 vols) by J. R. R. Tolkien, edited by John Rateliff 9780007235551, 9780007250660
This listing includes the two volume British editions of The History of the Hobbit (2007), which include Part One Mr. Baggins and Part Two Return to Bag-End. Both books are 1st editions, 1st printings. The books are in near fine condition (like new), except that both books have been remaindered (see picture). Rateliff’s commentary is just as interesting as Tolkien’s text. This is a great read if you desire to learn more about The Hobbit in particular and Middle-earth in general.
For the first time, The History of the Hobbit reproduces the original version of one of literature’s most famous stories, and includes many little-known illustrations and previously unpublished maps for The Hobbit created by Tolkien himself. Also featured are extensive annotations and commentaries on the date of composition, how Tolkien’s professional and early mythological writings influenced the story, the imaginary geography he created, and how he came to revise the book in the years after publication to accommodate events in The Lord of the Rings.

J. R. R. Tolkien Companion and Guide (Two Volume Box Set) by Scull & Hammond 9780618391134
This listing includes the two volume American set of The Tolkien Companion and Guide (2006) by Christina Scull and Wayne G. Hammond, which include the Chronology and Reader’s Guide. The books are in near fine condition (like new), except the bottom part of the slipcase has some mild scuffing from shelfwear (see picture). This is a great read if you desire to learn more about Tolkien’s life and work.
Designed to be the essential reference works for all readers and students, these volumes present the most thorough analysis possible of Tolkien’s work within the important context of his life. The Reader’s Guide includes brief but comprehensive alphabetical entries on a wide range of topics, including a who’s who of important persons, a guide to places and institutions, details concerning Tolkien’s source material, information about the political and social upheavals through which the author lived, the importance of his social circle, his service as an infantryman in World War I—even information on the critical reaction to his work and the “Tolkien cult.”
The Chronology details the parallel evolutions of Tolkien’s works and his academic and personal life in minute detail. Spanning the entirety of his long life including nearly sixty years of active labor on his Middle-earth creations, and drawing on such contemporary sources as school records, war service files, biographies, correspondence, the letters of his close friend C. S. Lewis, and the diaries of W. H. Lewis, this book will be an invaluable resource for those who wish to gain a complete understanding of Tolkien’s status as a giant of twentieth-century literature.

The Hobbit (50th Anniversary Edition) by J. R. R. Tolkien 0395177111

The slipcase contains only very, very minor scratches and rubbing.

The Book of Lost Tales, Part I by J. R. R. Tolkien (Guild Publishing, 2nd impress.)
This is a Book Club Associates 2nd impression/printing (1986) of the British edition of The Book of Lost Tales, Part I. Besides some mild wear to the dust jacket (a crease towards the bottom on the front and some scratches), I’d say this book is in very good plus to near fine (like new) condition. I don’t think this book has ever been read.
The Book of Lost Tales stands at the beginning of the entire conception of Middle-earth and Valinor for the Tales were the first form of the myths and legends that came to be called The Silmarillion. Embedded in English legend and English association, they are set in the narrative frame of a great westward voyage over the Ocean by a mariner named Eriol to the lonely Isle where the Elves dwelt; from them, he learned their true history, the Lost Tales of Elfinesse. In the Tales are found the earliest accounts of Gods and Elves, Dwarves, Balrogs and Orcs; of the Silmarils and the Two Trees of Valinor; of the geography and cosmology of Tolkien's invented world.

The Book of Lost Tales, Part II by J. R. R. Tolkien (Guild Publishing, 2nd impress.)
This is a Book Club Associates 2nd impression/printing (1986) of the British edition of The Book of Lost Tales, Part II. I’d say the book is in very good condition with staining to the textblock (see picture) and a small chuck of something (perhaps glue from the binding) stuck to the cover (see picture). There is also some staining to the dust jacket (see pictures) and some light scratches to it. I don’t think this book has ever been read.
This second part of The Book of Lost Tales includes the tale of Beren and Luthien, Turin and the Dragon, Necklace of the Dwarves, and the Fall of Gondolin. Each tale is followed by a commentary in the form of a short essay, together with the texts of associated poems, as well as information on names and vocabulary in the earliest Elvish languages.

The Lays of Beleriand by J. R. R. Tolkien (Guild Publishing, 2nd impress.)
This is a Book Club Associates 2nd impression/printing (1986) of the British edition of The Lays of Beleriand. I’d say the book is in very good plus to near fine (like new) condition with very faint staining to the top of the textblock (see picture). There is also some staining to the dust jacket (see pictures) and some light scratches to it. I don’t think this book has ever been read.

Up for sale is a 1st edition, 1st printing of the American edition of Mr. Bliss (1983). According to Hammond’s Tolkien Bibliography, there were “25,000 copies printed.” I’d say the book is in very good condition with the following defects: the corners are very slightly bumped and rubbed, the book is very slightly cocked (see picture), and the dust jacket has bends along the edges of it, a faint residue on the back near the bottom, and edgewear, including small tears (see pictures). The dust jacket is price clipped.
The Children of Húrin Poster (J. R. R. Tolkien)
Up for sale is a Children of Húrin poster that measures 15” by 20”. The poster is in near fine (like new condition) with very, very minor rubbing to the edges. These posters were designed for the release of the book.

The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien (Silver 25th Anniversary Edition)
Up for sale is a set of The Lord of the Rings Silver Anniversary Edition to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the release of The Lord of the Rings (Houghton Mifflin, 1981). This set is in near fine (like new condition); however, the slipcase does contain very minor wear at the corners (a small impression on one corner) and one part of the black paper has a very tiny tear because I don’t think that that edge was glued down properly (see the pictures).

The Monsters and the Critics & Other Essays by J. R. R. Tolkien 1st, 1st 0395356350
Up for sale is a hardback copy of the 1st American edition, 1st printing of The Monsters and the Critics & Other Essays (1984). According to Hammond’s Tolkien Bibliography, there were “4,000 copies printed.” The book is in very good condition; it appears to have never been read. The book is slightly cocked, the corners are slightly rubbed and bumped, and there’s a few mild scuffs to the cover. The dust jacket contains small tears and chips, especially along the edges (see pictures).
The seven essays by Tolkien assembled in this hardback edition were with one exception delivered as general lectures on particular occasions; and while they mostly arose out of Tolkien’s work in medieval literature, they are accessible to all. Two of them are concerned with Beowulf, including the well-known lecture whose title is taken for this book, and one with Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, given at the University of Glasgow in 1953. Also included in this volume is the lecture “English and Welsh”; the Valedictory Address to the University of Oxford in 1959; and a paper on Invented Languages delivered in 1931, with exemplification from poems in the Elvish tongues. Most famous of all is “On Fairy-stories,” a discussion of the nature of fairy-tales and fantasy, which gives insight into Tolkien’s approach to the whole genre.

Finn and Hengest: The Fragment and the Episode by J. R. R. Tolkien 1st, 1st 0395331935
Up for sale is a hardback copy of the 1st American edition, 1st printing of Finn and Hengest: The Fragment and the Episode (1983). The book itself is in near fine (like new) condition; it appears to have never been read. The dust jacket I’d rate as very good because it contains scratches, chips, and small tears (see pictures).
The story of Finn and Hengest, two fifth-century heroes in northern Europe, is told both in Beowulf and in a fragmentary Anglo-Saxon poem known as The Fight at Finnsburg, but so obscurely and allusively that its interpretation has been a matter of controversy for over 100 years. Bringing his unique combination of philological erudition and poetic imagination to the task, Tolkien revealed a classic tragedy of divided loyalties, of vengeance, blood and death. The story has the added attraction that it describes the events immediately preceding the first Germanic invasion of Britain which was led by Hengest himself.
This book will appeal not only to students of Old English and all those interested in the history of northern Europe and Anglo-Saxon England, but also admirers of The Lord of the Rings who will be fascinated to see how Tolkien handled a story which he did not invent.

The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien (Folio Society 2012)
Up for sale is a hardback copy of the Folio Society Reprinted edition, 16th printing (2012) of The Hobbit. The book is in near fine (like new) condition; it appears to have never been read. The slipcase contains minor shelfwear and a scratch along the top (see pictures).
Smith of Wootton Major by J. R. R. Tolkien 1st, 1st
Up for sale is a hardback copy of the 1st British edition, 1st printing of Smith of Wootton Major (1967). The book is in good condition only. This edition was issued without a dust jacket. The book contains a lot of rubbing, chipping, and scuffs to the boards of the book (see pictures). This is a very small book.
What began as a preface to The Golden Key by George MacDonald eventually grew into this charming short story, so named by Tolkien to suggest an early work by P.G. Wodehouse. Composed almost a decade after The Lord of the Rings, and when his lifelong occupation with the ‘Silmarillion’ was winding down, Smith of Wootton Major was the product of ripened experience and reflection. It was published in 1967 as a small hardback, complete with charming black and white illustrations by Pauline Baynes, and would be the last work of fiction to be published in Tolkien’s own lifetime.

The Silver Chair by C. S. Lewis 1st, 1st
Up for sale is a hardback copy of the 1st American edition, 1st printing of The Silver Chair (1953). The book is in very good plus condition. The dust jacket is missing. Up for sale is a hardback copy of the 1st American edition, 1st printing of The Last Battle (1956). The book is in good condition only. The dust jacket is missing. Up for sale is a board book (1989) of Tolkien’s poem “Oliphaunt” from The Lord of the Rings and The Adventures of Tom Bombadil. The book is in very good condition. This book was not issued with a dust jacket. The corners and edges are bumped and rubbed and there are some scratches and indentations to the boards (see pictures). This particular copy contains a strange printing error: the page that contains the lines “Beyond count of years / I stump round and round” is not in the book and the page that contains the lines “Never lie on the ground / Not even to die” is duplicated twice (see pictures).

Tree and Leaf by J. R. R. Tolkien (Unwin Books) 1st, 1st

The corners are bumped and rubbed, the book is cocked, the transparent, plastic coating on the spine has split and is starting to peel (see pictures). The cover has some residue from a sticker that has been removed; it has taken away some of the plastic coating to the cover as well (see picture). The spine is not tight; the book is quite worn.

Up for sale is a hardback copy of the 1st edition, 1st impression/printing of Angles and Britons (1963), which contains Tolkien’s lecture “English and Welsh.” The book is in very good condition; the corners are lightly bumped and rubbed, there is some edgewear, and there is a one inch size ding to the back board near the spine (see picture). The binding is tight, and I don’t think it has ever been read. The dust jacket has a number of creases, chips, and tears, especially on the spine, and is lightly spotted. The spine is also sunned.

The Hobbit: An Illustrated Edition (Arthur Rankin & Jules Bass 1st) by J. R. R. Tolkien 0883657465

• “Oliphaunt”
• “Fastitocalon”

According to Hammond’s Tolkien Bibliography, there were “10,000 copies planned.” The book is in good plus condition. The corners and edges are quite bumped and rubbed, especially the bottom of the spine (see picture) and bottom of the book, and there are a few other chips and scrapes here and there to the boards. The corners of the pages of the textblock are also slightly bumped/bent. The main art of the cover, though, is in pretty good condition (see pictures). The dust jacket has chips and tears (see pictures) and someone has placed two pieces of Scotch tape, one at the top and the other at the bottom of the spine where most of the larger tears are at (see pictures).

Farmer Giles of Ham by J. R. R. Tolkien 1st, 1st
Up for sale is a hardcopy of the 1st British edition, 1st printing of Farmer Giles of Ham (1949). According to Hammond’s Tolkien Bibliography, there were “4,500 copies in trade binding published.” The book is in very good minus condition. The boards contain light stains and marks, most notably one to the back left corner. There is a ding along the edge of the front and back boards about an inch down from the right corner. There is a bookseller’s sticker on the pastedown (see picture). The dust jacket contains stains, tears, chips, and rubbing (see pictures).
Farmer Giles of Ham did not look like a hero. He was fat and red-bearded and enjoyed a slow, comfortable life. Then one day a rather deaf and short-sighted giant blundered on to his land. More by luck than skill, Farmer Giles managed to scare him away. The people of the village cheered: Farmer Giles was a hero. His reputation spread far and wide across the kingdom. So it was natural that when the dragon Chrysophylax visited the area it was Farmer Giles who was expected to do battle with it.

Tree and Leaf by J. R. R. Tolkien (Houghton Mifflin) 1st, 1st
Up for sale is a hardcopy of the 1st American edition, 1st printing of Tree and Leaf (1965), which contains Tolkien’s essay “On-Fairy-stories” and short story “Leaf by Niggle.” According to Hammond’s Tolkien Bibliography, there were “4,500 copies printed.” The book is in very good plus condition. The corners are bumped and slightly rubbed (see picture), there is a tiny brown spot to the pastedown (see picture), very, very mild edgewear, and an almost imperceptible line on the textbook. The book appears to have never been read, though. The dust jacket contains edgewear (small chips and tears) and one large nickel-sized chip at the bottom of the spine (see pictures). The white on the back of the dust jacket is a bit dirty.

The corners and edges are rubbed and bumped (see picture), there is dampstain to the top of the spine that wraps around to the back upper right corner a bit (see pictures), there is a small tear at the top of the rear pastedown (see picture), and some of the rear pages in the very back, including the rear free endpaper have a crease along the top of the page (see picture). The book is quite square and besides the first few pages, the binding is tight, which leads me to believe it hasn’t been read much.

The binding is pretty tight, though the book appears to have been read.

The Father Christmas Letters by J. R. R. Tolkien 1st, 1st
Up for sale is a hardcopy of the 1st British edition, 1st impression/printing of The Father Christmas Letters (1976). According to Hammond’s Tolkien Bibliography, there were “50,000 copies printed.” This edition was issued without a dust jacket. The book is in very good condition. The corners are bumped, especially the bottom right one (see picture), which has caused the corners of some of the pages to bend a little, there is a faint indentation to the bottom of the paper on the title page, and the color of the lettering of “J. R. R. Tolkien” has faded on the spine (I believe it should be the same red as the cover).
A collection of letters and drawings which J.R.R. Tolkien's children received every Christmas for over 20 years. The letters tell of Father Christmas's struggle to get everything ready for the festive season, helped and hindered by his chief assistant, the North Polar Bear.
“Includes the letters from 1920, 1925-1938 and 1941 plus an appendix on an alphabet invented by North Polar Bear” (Tolkienbooks.net).

According to Tolkienbooks.net, there were only 3,061 copies of the 4th impression. This deluxe edition was issued in a slipcase. The book is in very good plus to near fine (like new) condition; I don’t think it has ever been read. However, the slipcase has an X running through the J. R. R. Tolkien symbol on the side like a razorblade ran across the surface of it (see picture). The slipcase also has a few dings and some mild wear (see picture). The book itself has slight fraying to the cloth (see picture), a few smudges to the cloth (see picture), and light rubbing toward the bottom left of the cover (see picture).

The book is in near fine (like new) condition; I don’t think it has ever been read. However, the slipcase contains some minimal shelfwear and the very edge at the top of the slipcase is very slightly lifted or was not glued down firmly when manufactured (see picture). The only defect I could find with the book is there are some mild smudges to the cloth.

The Children of Húrin (Deluxe Edition) 9780618904419
Up for sale is the Houghton Mifflin (American) deluxe edition of The Children of Húrin. This edition was issued in a slipcase. The book is in near fine (like new) condition, still in the shrink wrap.
